Baby blackbird

I found this beautiful baby blackbird on my driveway at home. The poor little guy had passed away. He looked so peaceful and cute that I decided to sketch him. It was quite a healing process. It also gave me some inspiration for some upcoming work... stay tuned.

My inspiration

I was recently asked to think about what inspires me. It's a simple question but once I sat down and really thought about it, I was overwhelmed by the list that I had come up with. I thought I would share some of my list with you now and continue to post my inspiration in the future.

Here are just a few amazing artists, designers, places and things that inspire me.

  • Vexta - Vexta is an Australian female street artist who has been described as one of the women redefining street art ( http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/jan/07/street-art-women-elle-swoon-vexta ). She uses neon colours and triangular shapes to create beautiful large scale murals as well as smaller works. You can check out some of Vexta's work here:  http://vexta.com.au/
  • Stefan Gevers - Stefan is an Australian based watercolour artist who specialises in contemporary art. I love his use of pattern and shapes. You can see Stefan's work here: http://www.stefangevers.com/
  • Phlegm - Phlegm is well known street artist with a distinctive style and way of cleverly constructing his artwork so that it interacts with the 'canvas' that he uses. His work is definitely worth checking out: http://phlegmcomicnews.blogspot.com.au/
  • Society6 - Society 6 is a US based website which allows artists to upload images which are then sold as prints, T-shirts, mugs etc. There are so many talented artists and designers on this sight, providing endless inspiration as you scroll through. Check it out at society6.com. You can also see my society6 profile here: http://society6.com/whosaidpigscantfly.
I will post more of what inspires me later...
Happy designing!
